Senior Men’s and Women’s Sevens

Event Details

The annual 2016 RAN Sevens will take place on November 12th & 13th in Trinidad and Tobago. The tournament will feature both men’s and women’s national teams from around the region, and a variety of administrative and educational events to further develop rugby. The tournament will be streamed live. Click on LIVE to watch and search #RAN7s to follow the action.

Men’s Sevens Championship
Format and Pools | 14 teams

DAY 1

Teams have been divided into 4 pools, based on the most current rankings and final positions at previous RAN Sevens tournaments. These are as follows:

POOL A:
Canada
Bermuda
British Virgin Islands

POOL B:
Mexico
Trinidad & Tobago
St. Vincent and the Grenadines

POOL C:
Cayman Islands
Barbados
Curacao
Dominican Republic

POOL D:
Guyana
Jamaica
Turks & Caicos Islands
Martinique

Teams in Pools A and B will play only two matches on Day 1 and teams in Pool C and Pool D will play 3 matches.

DAY 2

The top 2 teams in each Pool will go through to an 8 team (Cup / Plate) knockout tournament as follows:

Cup Quarterfinals:
A1 v D2
C1 v B2
D1 v A2
B1 v C2

• Loser of 2 Plate semi-finals play off for 7th / 8th

• Loser of Cup semi-finals play off for 3rd / 4th

The 3rd place teams in Pools A and B and 3rd and 4th place teams in Pools C and D will go through to a separate Bowl and Shield tournament, as follows:

MEN’S POOL 1:
3rd Pool A
3rd Pool C
4th Pool D

MEN’S POOL 2:
3rd Pool C
4th Pool C
3rd Pool D

Each will play 2 matches, followed by the following:
Bowl Final: 1st Pool 1 v 1st Pool 2
Shield Final: 2nd Pool 1 v 2nd Pool 2
Consolation match: 3rd Pool 1 v 3rd Pool 2

Women’s Sevens Championship
Format and Pools | 10 teams

DAY 1 AND DAY 2

ROUND 1:
Teams have been divided into 2 pools, based on the most current rankings and final positions at previous RAN Sevens tournaments. These are as follows:

POOL A:
Canada
Jamaica
Cayman
Bermuda
Turks & Caicos Islands

POOL B:
Mexico
Trinidad & Tobago
Guyana
Bahamas
Dominican Republic

Each team will play 4 pool matches each with at least one match being played on Day 2

ROUND 2

Will take the form of a straight knockout tournament as follows:

CUP AND PLATE:
Semi-finals – Winner Pool A v RU Pool B; Winner Pool B v RU Pool A
Final Cup:
Winner SF 1 v Winner SF 2
Plate for 3rd v 4th: Loser SF 1 v Loser SF 2
Bowl and Shield:
Semi-finals – 3rd Pool A v 4th Pool B; 3rd Pool B v 4th Pool A
Bowl Final for 5th / 6th: Winner SF 1 v Winner SF2
Shield Final for 7th / 8th: Loser SF 1 v Loser SF 2
Consolation match for 9th / 10th: 5th Pool A v 5th Pool B

Note: the 5th place teams in Pools A and B will only play 5 matches in total over the two days
